full movie 'princess diaries'

  • The film Princess Diaries is a romantic comedy genre.
  • Main characters: Mia (Princess to be)
  • Grandma (Queen)
  • Mother
  • Lily best friend
  • Joe bodyguard

  • Througout the film relationships progress in romance and friendship ways however some do not work out.
  • At the start of the film, it begins with mia and her mother speaking, it uses a midview shot of them both to connote their close loving realtionship, the mother is looking out for her daughter which is the ideology of todays society, parents care and always worry about there children no matter what age.
  • mia and her best friend have a more carefree friendship, they are best friends who share most events together and know alot about eachother, it uses a pan movement from one to the other to show they are very close and like the same things. It connotes the dominant ideology of friends today who are really close mostly never apart and share difficulties together.
  • In the romantic scenes, they use a mid shot of the couple which emphasises the teen romance and keeps us attached to what will happen next, if any difficulties arise in the couples realtionship.
  • The grandma and mia have a complicated relationship, they get along as they are family however hardly see eachother so at first it is awkard between them which they use a mid shot to connote the tense situation. later on there relationship progresses to a really close fun friendship.
  • There is extreme closeups of the teens kissing to emphasise the romance involved and that they are falling in love.
  • tracking movement is used throughtout to follow main character mia, which keeps the audience in the scene ready for the next chapter.

  • Costumes are shown through longview shots which capture the whole outfit, each character has there own style for there personality.
  • The Queen is well dressed, sensible colours and lengths of dresses are long. Her complex is clean and her hair is neatly presented which connotes she takes pride in her appearance. Its the dominant ideology that a Queen should not look a mess and should be well presented.
  • Mia the main character at first looks like a typical teenager, she has big hair and glasses and does not really care of her appearance, it's the ideology that teenagers have not matured. later the grandmother gives her a makeover which makes Mia look much older and her appearance is much better, she looks alot more like a princess should, the way the media represent young princesses.
  • Joe the bodyguard is dressed all in black and wears black shades, this represents he's mysterious, also black makes him smart and its a typical ideology of media's representative of bodyguards.
  • Throughtout the editing used is mostly straight cuts, which sets the scene and keeps continuety which connotes that the audience is glued to the realism of the film.
  • there is a jump cut of the school and all the people trying to speak to Mia when they find out she is the princess to be,it emphasises the scene to make it shown dramatic which connotes how chaos it has got for the character.
